Saint Pius X Catholic School considers safety a way of life. We realize that parents entrust their children to us, to guide their spiritual growth, teach them and ensure that they are safe.
Saint Pius X is vigilant in our efforts to continually review our Crisis Management Plan for any areas of potential improvement. Through outside consultation, internal discussions, planning practice and education of all staff members, we work to provide the safest and most prepared environment for our students. Saint Pius X Catholic School has multiple procedures established to handle a potentially unsafe or dangerous situation. We maintain a relationship with local law enforcement and emergency response professionals that consult with us, train us and remain on-call in the event of an emergency.
We encourage all parents, students and friends of the Saint Pius X Catholic School community to notify us of any potentially unsafe or dangerous situation so we can address it efficiently and appropriately.
Working together, we can ensure the provision of a safe and nurturing environment for all of our students. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Principal Chris Milliron ( [email protected]) or Assistant Principal Allison Watson ([email protected]).
In a crisis, what should parents do?
In any crisis situation, anxiety runs high. To assist us in reunifying parents with children, parents should follow three steps:
STAY HOME
STAY INFORMED
BE READY
Please notify the school of any contact information change to keep records current.
Diocesan Safe Environment Program for Children
The Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend requires that all children in the diocesan parochial schools participate in age-specific safe environment training. Grades preschool through three will receive a 15 minute presentation. Grades 6, 7, and 8 will have safe environment presentations during class time.
Parents may view all the Safe Environment material that we use HERE. If parents do not want this training offered to their child, they may download the “Safe Environment Opt Out” form, found HERE and return the form to the RE office.
Diocesan Safe Environment Program for Volunteers
NEW SCHOOL FAMILIES, FACULTY AND STAFF
All new families, faculty and staff will be given a safe environment packet with a cover letter explaining the process. Information can be emailed upon request. See contact information below.
Upon satisfactory completion of safe environment training, the school office will prepare a permanent name badge with expiration date below name.
OTHER VOLUNTEERS
When someone is planning to volunteer in the school, the school office should be notified prior to their first day of service, so the volunteer candidate can go through mandatory training before they start volunteering.
(*This includes students under 18 years of age, as well as, leaders of any groups sponsored by Saint Pius X such as, after school clubs, Boy Scouts, music instruction, etc.)
COMPANIES WHO PROVIDE SERVICE TO THE SCHOOL ON A REGULAR BASIS
Employees of regular service companies (such as the lunch program) are required to provide verification of background check through their company OR participate in the Saint Pius Safe Environment Training Program.
MONITORING VOLUNTEERS WHOSE TRAINING HAS EXPIRED/RECORDS MAINTENANCE
Monthly audits are conducted by the school front office staff of all permanent name badges
